Calamvale Community College is the only a P-12 College in Queensland to have a fully operational licensed restaurant and a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen in which to train hospitality students to develop practical culinary skills in cookery, catering and front of house restaurant service.
Students are able to learn in a real-world environment with two fully qualified chefs and 5 star industry-experienced front of house staff in the 3 Trees Restaurant and hospitality training facility.
The Hospitality Excellence program offers students Certificate II in Kitchen Operations and Certificate II Hospitality qualifications ensuring they graduate with highly sought after skills and experience. The courses are led by staff with many years experience in industry at the highest levels and in partnership with prominent restaurants and catering/event management organisations.
The student teams have consistently won accolades in the Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge and Barista Competitions. Testament to the capability and proficiency that our course instils.
2017 marked the beginning of a new direction for the Hospitality team as our expertise expands.
From working at the Perth Hilton with Cheong Lieu, to Hotels in Austria, Coq D’ Argent, Conrad Treasury’s Marco Polo, opening chef for the Gallery of Modern Art, catering chef with the Governor of Queensland. Michael Kelemen-Lehmann returns for his 4th year on the team, leading the Kitchen team with our Year 11 and 12 Cert II Kitchen Operations students. Michael has led the College to place second in the Junior Chef Culinary Competition at the Gold Coast Show last year. He has a strong passion for quality food, unique flavours and developing a love for the art of cuisine in his students.
Leanne Logan is also returning in 2017. Leanne has a background in Insurance Broking and Administration and in that time has serviced many large National and International clients. Leanne plays a crucial role in our team as she coordinates the day to day operations to ensure we are ready for services. If you are interested in organising a function this year, Leanne is the person to see to make your booking to ensure all of your needs are catered for and your event runs smoothly.
Leah Cremen joins the team with 15 years industry experience in Front of House. Leah started out as a Food and Beverage Attendant in a Functions/Banquets Department whilst studying her Diploma of Hospitality (Management). Leah has a broad experience having worked as a Duty Manager, Supervisor, Function Coordinator and Food and Beverage Workplace Trainer in 5 star establishments and small cafes/restaurants. Leah is looking forward to leading the Front of House team and sharing her knowledge with our Year 11 and 12 Cert II Hospitality students.
Tom Bishop joins the team with 20 years experience as a qualified chef. Tom has worked across various establishments from large hotels to small cafes. For the last 12 years, Tom has owned a catering company which has accommodated functions for up to 3000 people and he has also run four different kitchens at once. Tom is currently studying to obtain his TAE and looks forward to sharing his industry experience and knowledge with our students.
