CALAMVALE WOLVES SPORTS DEPARTMENT

The Calamvale Wolves Sports Departments focuses on two main areas in the Secondary School; High Performance Sports and Competition Sports.

HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORTS

High Performance Sports are four sports where we focus on the holistic athlete development. These sports are; Volleyball, Netball, Basketball and Futsal. Students trial for a position within a squad at the beginning of the school year and when successful they train and compete with their squad for the year. Formal training for squad occur every Wednesday during session 3, during allocated lunch breaks within the Sports Centre each week, and before or after school depending on the squad. Students pay a one off sport levy that covers all costs for the year which includes their Wolves training attire. Our High Performance squads enter all major Queensland All-Schools tournaments and also select Australian Championships. Tournaments that we enter include;

• Volleyball Queensland Indoor Cup (Junior, Intermediate and Senior)

• Volleyball Queensland Beach Cup (Junior, Intermediate and Senior)

• Australian Beach Volleyball Schools Cup (select teams)

• CBSQ Basketball (Sophomore, Junior Secondary, Open)

• Vicki Wilson Shield and Cup

• Southside Super 7’s Netball

• SEQ All-Schools Futsal

• Brisbane Futsal Challenge

• Gold Coast Futsal Challenge

• Summer State Titles Futsal

The Calamvale Wolves also host a number of night tournaments at the College that include the Wolves Volleyball Invitational.

COMPETITION SPORTS

Competition Sports are sports that occur across the school year where students are able to trial and work with their squad in the lead up to a tournament or competition. These include; Touch Football, Soccer, Badminton, Cricket, Track and Field, Swimming and Cross Country Running. Depending on the squad the lead in time for the events vary. Cross Country for example train for five months prior to the Southern Scorpions Cross Country Meet and then continue on for four months following the event to compete in All-Schools and external meets.

REPRESENTATIVE OPPURTUNITIES

All Calamvale Wolves athletes have the opportunity trial for Southern Scorpion and Metropolitan West representative honours in their chosen sport. They nominate directly through the schools Director of Sport.
