Calamvale Community College is the only Prep -12 College in Queensland to have a fully operational licensed café and a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen in which to train hospitality students to develop practical culinary skills in cookery, catering and front of house service.
Students are able to learn in a real-world environment with a fully qualified chef and 5 star industry-experienced front of house staff in the 3 Trees Café and hospitality training facility.
The Hospitality Excellence program offers students Certificate II in Kitchen Operations and Certificate II Hospitality qualifications ensuring they graduate with highly sought after skills and experience. Students who excel in Hospitality, may be invited to extend their studies further with a Certificate III in Hospitality. The courses are led by staff with many years’ experience in industry at the highest levels and in partnership with prominent restaurants and catering/event management organisations.
The Hospitality student teams have consistently won accolades in the Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge and Barista Competitions that is testament to the capability and proficiency that our course instils.
The Hospitality students have also been entering the Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s Salute to Excellence with great success, receiving recognition from well-respected industry specialists.

Hospitality team
Tom Bishop has been working in the Hospitality industry for over 20 years with experience as both a qualified chef and business owner. Tom has worked across various establishments from large hotels to small cafes. Tom has owned a catering company which has accommodated functions for up to 3000 people and he has also run four different kitchens at once. Tom brings his vast knowledge to the College as the 3 Trees Café Manager and also one of the Trainers and Assessors.
Leah Cremen has been working in the Hospitality industry for over 15 years in in Front of House. Leah started out as a Food and Beverage Attendant in a Functions/Banquets Department whilst studying her Diploma of Hospitality (Management). Leah has a broad experience having worked as a Duty Manager, Supervisor, Function Coordinator and Workplace Trainer in 5 star establishments and small cafes/restaurants. Leah is a Senior Experienced Teacher who is the Hospitality VET Coordinator and one of the Trainers and Assessors.
Students also have opportunities throughout their studies to work with Hospitality experts from our industry partners including Training Direct Australia, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Royal Pines Resort, Algester Sports Club & Wolff Coffee Roasters.
