Last week, Year 4 attended the NAIDOC Parade and appreciated a performance by Tribal Experience. We listened to some of our First Nation teachers and students speak proudly about their heritage. The message about Heal Country could be related to our current unit of inquiry. Year 4s inquired into traditional land management practices used by First Nation people in the Bunya Mountains, and how these practices are "Healing Country" in contemporary times. They have been investigating the contributions of world navigators and explorers and the challenges and consequences of colonisation and settlement in Australia. During our investigations, students have explored the reasons for the development of a colony and the stories of the different groups involved. One of the key concepts is Perspective and we have considered different viewpoints and how this part of history was interpreted by the first Europeans and First nations People.
